Just read jan. 18, 2012, A Bruce Trip: A Remembrance, while drinking a bottle of Jean Foillard's Morgan , Cote du Py. Last night, cruising through the cellar of Carole Hughes, our gracious host for the last couple of days, we came across a bottle of the 1995 vintage and felt that it was well time to sample the Beaujolais.
I have never tasted a gamay wine of such age, so was prepared for disappointment. After carving off the sealing wax, and noting little obvious sediment, we pour glasses directly from the bottle.
The color is medium-pale red going to light mahogany towards the rim.
The moderately intense nose exhibits violets, red cherry, red current and sassafras.
The palate has a medium light body, still lively acidity and just the right alcohol. The initial taste is of leather and light tar, followed by light raspberry. The finish is clean and medium-long.
Wow! Sixteen year old Cru Beaujolais. Kermit Lynch, please continue importing M. Foillard's wines. Giles
