Into the Eye of the Strike: Beaujolais Nouveau

Monday, October 25

Greetings to all from the Rhône Valley. A technical problem has prohibited me from uploading video footage so far. Violent winds around Ampuis limited my wireless signal to a point that heavy uploads were impossible to execute. I hope to bring you more footage soon.

DB-Damien-DupeubleThe 2010 Nouveau at Domaine Dupeuble surpassed all expectations. After experiencing the near perfection of the 2009 vintage, I arrived this morning fully expecting a good but not a great vintage. From the first glass I was shocked by the intensity of color, aroma, and flavor. Discussion was lively as always with the whole Dupeuble family present, le chef Damien Dupeuble, brothers Julien and Paul, sons Fabrice and Stéphane, daughter Ghislaine. Things are going to be very tight this year, with the strike affecting everything from trucks to planes to bottles to labels, but it all seems to be coming together well at the last minute for on-time delivery stateside on the third Thursday in November. Check our website closer to time for availability in your area.

Does this mean that none of the 2009 KLWM Beaujolais, not just the Nouveau, will be in until the third Thursday in November? Each night, when I open a bottle of wine and start making dinner, I think to myself, “Why didn’t I buy enough Beaujolais 6 months ago to get me through until the next shipment arrives?” I will not be making that mistake again!

Is the celebration with the al fresco luncheon on this year? When? Or have I missed it already?
